UGC Text Message Ad Scripts: 30 Chat Hooks for Paid Social
The hardest part of a text message ad is not the video. It is the first line. A chat ad lives or dies in the first two bubbles: if the opening message does not open a loop, nobody reads the rest, and the product never appears.
This post is a swipe file. It has 30 hooks and short scripts for UGC-style chat ads, sorted by product type, written in the way people actually text. Each one is a starting point for a test, not a finished ad. Copy the structure, swap in your product, and export a few variants. The demo below is one of them, built in the brand-free Text Chat app in a couple of minutes.
What makes a chat hook work
Every hook in this list does one of five things in the first bubble:
- Opens a loop. "ok I need to tell you something." The viewer has to read on to close it.
- States a surprising result. "I haven't paid for coffee in 3 weeks." Specific, a little unbelievable, worth checking.
- Asks the question the viewer is already asking. "be honest, does it actually work or is it an ad." This one disarms scepticism by voicing it.
- Starts mid-conflict. "why is there a box with your name on it at my door." Drama is the oldest hook there is.
- Shows a reaction before the cause. "I'm literally crying." Then the reveal.
Pair the hook with the right relationship. A recommendation from a sister reads differently from one by a co-worker, and a reply from a creator reads differently from a reply by a brand account. For the full ad structure (hook, problem, product, payoff) and the specs for each placement, see the guide to text message ad creatives for Meta and TikTok.
Scripts for beauty and personal care
Build these in the brand-free Text Chat with your brand's accent colour. Product names are placeholders.
1. The honest question (the demo above)
- Follower: be honest, does the glow serum actually work or is it an ad
- Creator: honest answer: I bought it myself before they ever paid me
- Creator: 4 weeks in, the dry patch on my chin is gone
- Follower: ok that's actually the thing I needed to hear
- Creator: code JORDAN gets you 15% btw
2. The compliment
- Friend: ok what did you do to your skin
- You: nothing??
- Friend: you look like you slept for a week
- You: oh. the night cream. I'll send you the link
3. The stolen product
- Sister: did you take my moisturiser
- You: β¦maybe
- Sister: it's the only one that doesn't break me out
- You: ordering you your own one right now π
4. The before and after
- Friend: send me a pic of your hair from last month
- You: [image message]
- Friend: and now??
- You: [image message]
- Friend: WHAT is the shampoo
5. The sceptic converted
- Friend: you know I hate trying new stuff
- Friend: but that sunscreen you sent me
- Friend: no white cast. none. I'm in shock

Scripts for apps and software
These work as a Text Chat between friends or colleagues, and AI products can show the same moment as a question to their own assistant in AI Assistant Chat.
6. The money found β "I cancelled three subscriptions this week" β "the app found them. $41 a month" β "sending me the link right now".
7. The time saved β "how did you finish the report already" β "I didn't. the AI summarised the 40-page doc" β "you're joking" β "I'll show you tomorrow".
8. The rescue β "my laptop died and I had the whole presentation on it" β "check the app, it syncs" β "IT'S ALL THERE" β "you're welcome".
9. The habit β "day 30 π₯" β "of what" β "the language app. I ordered food in Spanish today" β "ok I'm downloading it".
10. The group decision β "where are we going friday" β "I made a poll in the app" β "it picked the Thai place" β "democracy wins".
11. The B2B pain (two colleagues) β "who approved this invoice twice" β "nobody, it's a duplicate the old system missed" β "the new tool flagged it" β "can we roll it out to finance".
Scripts for food, drink and delivery
12. The late-night order β "are you awake" β "unfortunately" β "I just found the 24h bakery delivery" β "send. me. the. menu."
13. The meal kit β "I cooked. like actually cooked" β "who are you" β "the box comes with everything measured" β "ok I need this".
14. The coffee β "I haven't paid for coffee in 3 weeks" β "how" β "the loyalty app gives every 5th free and I drink a lot of coffee" β "that's not the flex you think it is" β "it absolutely is".
15. The local shop (as the business) β "Do you still have sourdough today?" β "Six left, fresh at 8 π" β "Keep two for me?" β "Done, under your name". Small businesses can use the replies they really send customers as the script; see chat mockups for client videos.
Scripts for fashion, home and gifts
16. The delivery mystery β "why is there a box with your name on it at my door" β "DON'T OPEN IT" β "it's your birthday present" β "β¦it's very squishy" β "it's the hoodie you liked".

18. The compliment chain β "three people asked where my bag is from today" β "where IS it from" β "small shop online, I'll send it".
19. The mattress β "I slept 9 hours" β "who are you" β "new mattress. 100 night trial so I had nothing to lose".

25. The insurance β "my car got hit in the parking lot" β "nightmare" β "honestly no. filed the claim from my phone in 5 minutes".
Scripts with a twist ending
Twist endings get rewatches, and rewatches help reach. Use them sparingly; the twist must still feature the product.
26. The wrong chat β a message about a surprise party sent to the person it is for, who replies only with the product being used for the party.
27. The parent β "mum how do I get the stain out" β three long paragraphs β "or just use this" with the product photo.
28. The dog β "the dog has been staring at the door for an hour" β "the camera app says the delivery is 2 min away" β "how does he KNOW".
29. The AI β a chat with an AI assistant asked to plan the week, and the plan includes the product. Build it in the brand-free AI Assistant Chat, where the assistant carries your own product's name and colour.
30. The plot twist β "who's [name]" β "why" β "they keep texting you 'your order has shipped'" β "it's the shop. I signed up for the alerts". Pair the chat with a clip from the brand-free Lock Screen Notifications app, with the banners coming from your shop's app name.
Turning a script into an ad
Each script above takes a few minutes to build.
- Open the brand-free Text Chat. In Your brand, set the Accent colour to your brand colour, then set the contact name: a first name, or a creator-style handle.
- Add each line as a message, choosing who sends it. Set delay before so each bubble is on screen long enough to read twice, and turn on the typing indicator for the replies that matter.
- Add a reaction (a heart on the product message is a classic), "Read" under the last message, or an image message for before-and-after scripts.
- Export a vertical 9:16 MP4 in Full HD for TikTok, Reels and Stories, and a 1:1 square for feed.

If you have more ideas than time, type the script idea into Describe it ("a follower asks a creator if a serum really works, the creator answers honestly and shares code JORDAN") and the AI writes the messages and timing. You can then change any single moment by its time. More prompt ideas are in the prompt ideas list.
Five mistakes that kill a chat script
The hook explains instead of teases. "This app saves you money on subscriptions" is a headline, not a text. "I cancelled three subscriptions this week" makes the viewer ask how, and that question is what keeps them watching.
Everyone sounds like a copywriter. Real people type in fragments, skip capital letters and react with one word. If a line would look natural on a billboard, it does not belong in a bubble. Read the script aloud in the voice of the person sending it.
The product arrives too late. Many viewers leave in the first few seconds. If the brand is named only in the last bubble, most of your impressions never see it. Aim to name the product before the halfway point and use the end for the reaction.
There is no rhythm. A conversation where every bubble arrives after exactly the same delay feels mechanical. Vary it: a quick double text, a pause with a typing indicator before the important answer, a fast reaction. Rhythm is what makes a chat feel live rather than generated.
The script fights the placement. A twelve-bubble story will not fit a six-second slot, and a joke that relies on sound fails for people scrolling with it off. Write the short version first, then expand it for longer placements, and make sure every script works muted.
Rules for paid UGC-style ads
UGC-style creatives are ads, and the usual advertising rules apply to what the bubbles say.
- Paid partnerships must be disclosed. If the "creator" is a real person who was paid, use the platform's paid-partnership label and make the relationship clear.
- Results must be real. "The dry patch is gone in 4 weeks" is a claim. Only write what you can stand behind for your product.
- Use names you have rights to. Use made-up people unless a real person has agreed to appear.
- Use a brand-free app, on Studio. MockClip's real-app templates recreate other companies' apps, and its licence grants no rights in those brands. Paid ads and client work need the Studio plan, and the brand-free apps are the templates made for them; see pricing and the terms. On other plans, videos are for your own content, monetised posts on your own channels included.
Paste a script into the brand-free Text Chat, add your brand colour, and export a vertical ad in minutes.
Build a UGC chat adMeasuring which hook wins
Run hooks as separate ads in the same ad set with identical targeting and identical body copy. Judge them on hook rate (the share of impressions that watch past the first few seconds) and hold rate before you look at cost per result; a chat ad that nobody reads past bubble two will never convert, however good the offer. Keep the winning first line and start testing the middle of the script next. The ad creative guide has a fuller testing plan, and the influencer marketing post covers creator-led DM formats for organic posts.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a UGC text message ad?
It is a paid ad that borrows the look of user-generated content: instead of a studio product shot, the story is a real-looking chat between a customer and a friend, or between a creator and a follower. The product comes up the way it would in a genuine conversation.
How many messages should a chat ad script have?
Four to seven bubbles is the sweet spot for a 10 to 20 second ad. Fewer and there is no story; more and viewers stop reading. Split long thoughts into two short bubbles instead of one long one.
Which chat app should I use for a UGC ad?
For a paid ad, a brand-free app. MockClip's real-app templates (iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram DM and others) recreate designs owned by other companies, and MockClip's licence grants no rights in them. The brand-free Text Chat suits friend-to-friend and creator-to-follower scripts, Lock Screen Notifications suit product moments, and AI Assistant Chat suits AI products. Paid ads need the Studio plan.
Can I use these scripts with a creator's real name?
Only with that person's permission, and the same advertising rules apply as for any endorsement: if a creator is paid, the ad has to make that clear. The scripts here use made-up names and products.
How do I turn a script into a video quickly?
Paste the lines into a MockClip chat template as messages, set who sends each one and the delay before it, and export an MP4. Or use the Describe it mode: type the script idea in a sentence and the AI writes the messages and timing for you to adjust.
