Instagram DM Video Maker and Fake DM Generator

This template turns a scripted Instagram direct message thread into an animated video. Your messages appear in gradient bubbles on the right, theirs arrive in gray on the left next to their profile photo, and a typing bubble with their avatar shows before each reply. You set the words, the timing, and the moment the chat is marked as seen.

It suits creators who tell stories through DMs, brands showing a customer or collab conversation, and anyone who needs a fake DM that plays out instead of a static screenshot. Draft the thread with Describe it mode or write it line by line, check it in the live preview, and export from the browser.

How it works

  1. 1

    Draft the thread

In Describe it mode, write something like "a brand asks me to promote them for exposure, I reply with an invoice" and the AI scripts it. It requires a Google or GitHub sign-in. Or add messages by hand.

  2. 2

    Set the profile and timing

Enter the contact name, a status such as Active now, and a profile photo. Then adjust each message's delay, typing time, reactions, and Seen marker, and press play.

  3. 3

    Export and post

Choose MP4 or GIF for posting, or a transparent MOV or WebM for compositing in your editor, at 720p or Full HD and 15 to 60 fps.

Features

Gradient outgoing bubbles

Your messages fill with a blue-to-pink gradient, while incoming messages sit in plain gray bubbles next to the sender's avatar.

Seen indicator

Mark a message as seen and a small copy of the contact's profile photo appears under it after the delay you choose. It needs an uploaded avatar.

Activity status

Show Active now with a green dot, or Active 1h ago, 2h ago, today, yesterday, or no status at all under the name.

Reactions and time separators

Add heart, laugh, surprised, sad, angry, or thumbs-up reactions with a delay, and put a centered time like 12:34 PM above any message.

Photo and video messages

Attach a photo or a video to a message and it fills the top of the bubble, blurred for a moment before it sharpens. A video shows its opening frame with a play button and its length; it does not play inside the clip.

Sound and keyboard

Video exports can carry send, receive, typing, and key-click sounds, and the on-screen keyboard slides up while you type. Both can be switched off.

What people make with it

  • DM storytelling

Turn a slide-into-the-DMs moment or an old friend resurfacing to ask a favor into a vertical clip for Reels, TikTok, or Shorts.

  • Brand and creator collabs

Show a collaboration request, a customer question, or a giveaway reply as it would play out in DMs, for a pitch or an ad.

  • Comedy and pranks

Script a terrible pickup line and the reply it deserves. Keep it fictional, and don't use real people's names or photos without permission.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a fake Instagram DM video?

Open the Instagram DM template, set the contact name, status, and profile photo, and add messages for Me and the other person. Adjust typing and delays, press play, and export as MP4, GIF, MOV, or WebM.

Is this a fake DM generator or a video maker?

Both. The editor builds the DM thread and the preview plays it back. The export is a video or GIF of the conversation unfolding, with typing bubbles, reactions, and the Seen marker appearing in order.

Why doesn't the Seen marker show up?

The Seen marker uses the contact's profile photo, so upload an avatar first. Then turn on Show "Seen" for one of your messages and set how long after the message it appears.

Is it free?

You can start for free: open the template, build the thread in your browser, and preview it as you go. For what each plan includes, take a look at the pricing page.

Does it look like real Instagram DMs?

It follows the Instagram Direct layout: gradient bubbles for your messages, the sender's avatar beside theirs, photo and video messages, activity status under the name, call icons in the header, and the camera button in the input bar. MockClip is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
